Introducing Artificial Intelligence: Your Beginner's Guide

Artificial intelligence (AI) is one of the hottest trends in modern science, with companies from all over the world researching and applying it to everything from medical research to self-driving cars. However, if you’re reading this article, you’re probably wondering what exactly artificial intelligence is and how it will impact your future. Well, wonder no more! This introduction to artificial intelligence will cover the basic principles of the field, which applications are most likely to reach widespread use, and how long you have before you need to start worrying about it taking over your job.

What is artificial intelligence?

Artificial intelligence is a field of computer science and engineering focused on the creation of intelligent agents, which are systems that can reason, learn, and act autonomously.

In practical terms, AI applications can be deployed in a number of ways, including: expert systems, natural language processing, robots, and machine learning.

Expert systems are computer programs that mimic the decision-making ability of a human expert. They use a combination of knowledge-based rules and artificial intelligence techniques to solve problems.

Natural language processing is a subfield of AI that deals with the ability of computers to understand human language and respond in a way that is natural for humans.

Some applications of AI in everyday life

You probably use some form of artificial intelligence every day without even realizing it. AI has become more commonplace in recent years, with advances in technology making it more accessible and affordable. Here are some examples of how you might use AI in your everyday life

Where does AI come from?

In its simplest form, artificial intelligence is a branch of computer science that deals with the creation of intelligent agents, which are systems that can reason, learn, and act autonomously. AI has been around for centuries in one form or another, but it was only in the 1950s that the term artificial intelligence was coined by a group of researchers at Dartmouth College.

Is this technology safe?

Yes, artificial intelligence is safe. In fact, it can be used to help make our world a safer place. Here are a few ways AI is being used to improve safety -Researchers at MIT have created an algorithm that detects skin cancer as accurately as dermatologists.

-Google DeepMind has built an algorithm that learns how to play Atari games by simply observing screen pixels and looking for patterns of data that occur during gameplay. The algorithm was not told the rules of the game or even which button does what. It was only taught by example and with repetition it achieved superhuman skill in 20 different Atari games without ever knowing the rules of the game or even what the buttons were for!

-AI powered robots will soon be taking over many dangerous jobs like deep sea drilling and bomb disposal in order to reduce human risk and casualties on the job.
